RANKS
Ranks of the Northern Garrison are divided into two categories: Officers and Sentries.
All members of the Garrison, regardless of rank, are collectively known as Sentries.
Ranks are as follows, from highest to lowest:
OFFICER: Lord Commander - First Marshall - Second Marshall - Field Officer
SENTRY: Master Sentry - Sentry - Recruit
The Lord Commander is the sole authority of the Garrison.
Officers are appointed leaders of the Garrison.
Sentries are field combatants of the Garrison.
Second Marshalls and above may recruit members into the Garrison.
PROMOTION
The Lord Commander is solely appointed by his predecessor and must hold the rank of Field Officer prior to promotion.
Officers are appointed by the Lord Commander and must hold the immediately lower rank prior to promotion.
Such promotions are based of personal achievement, leadership quality, and Garrison need.
Sentries are promoted by Officers on the basis of personal achievement.
Recruits are eligible for promotion to Sentries once achieving kindred with neighboring Bree.
Promotion to Sentry also requires the acquisition of the official garrison uniform.
Sentries are eligible for promotion to Master Sentries once achieving kindred with two of the following:
Rangers of Annuminas, Rangers of Esteldin, The Eglain, and Council of the North.
Requests for promotion must be submitted in written form to an immediately superior officer.
DEMOTION & DISCHARGE
Those serving in the Northern Garrison may be demoted to a minimum rank of Sentry
if they are found in repeated violation of duties, as defined in this handbook
Sentries that cannot or wish to no longer serve in the Garrison due to physical or mental condition may be eligible
for an honourable discharge. Such requests must be made, in written form, to an immediately superior officer.
The Northern Garrison maintains a zero-tolerance policy for violation of Garrison policies,
disregard for common ethics, and discourtesy towards fellow sentries, villagers, or merchants.
Dishonourable discharge results in immediate deportation from Grenrill Village (kinship explusion).
